"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.  -The Lorax

Founded by Leonia native, Alison Miller, Liberty Arts is a local, community-oriented collective of humans dedicated to fostering the development and production of theatrical art in Bergen County, New Jersey.  We love all art - song, dance, spoken word, visual art - the more forms the richer the experience. And we do not discriminate based upon political division.  We respect peoples' right to privacy and encourage inclusion and cooperation amongst anyone wishing to find a safe and supportive space to create.

We believe art can entertain but also seek the truth.  We love to perform and put on a show but, we aren't afraid to ask tough questions.  We desire to feel and think. We also choose to honor and embrace older traditions in performance while fostering the development of newer voices.  Many artists have made a choice to neglect and disrespect the old.   We do not limit ourselves. We remain open to possibility. We welcome anyone of any age.

Like so many people over the last few years, we at Liberty Arts experienced isolation and disconnection in addition to changing worldviews and social patterns. Under the direction of our founder, Ali, we made a decision to emerge from this cocoon in a fresher and more beautiful form. Like the blue, morpho butterfly, we spread our wings and are ready to take flight.

So, come.  Join us.  We welcome you to play!

About Liberty Arts!

Our
Founder

Ali Miller, a native of Leonia, New Jersey has been an artist for most of her life. She is a dancer, singer, actress, choreographer, writer, producer and yogi! In New Jersey, she has appeared in the roles of Lola in Damn Yankees, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Helene in Sweet Charity, Laura in The Glass Menagerie, Hanna in La Cage Aux Folles among others. She has written and created original pieces for the stage including Something Opens our Wings and Loesser Is More in addition to directing Free To Be You And Me, a childrens' theatrical production. In NYC, she recently performed new works at the Gene Frankel Theatre and The Richard Rodgers' Room. A passionate dancer, Ali has diligently studied with master teachers in NYC such as Stephanie Godino, Sidney Lowenthal, Desiree Errico and William Waldinger at the Joffrey Ballet School, Cindy Vallone at STEPS and Carolyn Santicolo at the Classic Ballet School. Ali has also sung like a bird since a young age. As far back as she can remember, she has enjoyed singing for her neighbors on their front steps, warbling in the middle school show choir and women's high school choir.  She now studies privately in NYC with Kyle Gonyea. Ali can soon be seen on television in a special children's program, Time With Ms. Ali, produced by Mel Hioki Creations. When she is not busy on the stage, Ali is active as a yoga instructor in Bergen County, teaching people of all ages. She also can be spotted splashing around the pool providing aqua fitness classes!

Our Team

Here we are! And we're quite a bunch - different people from different backgrounds with different opinions gathering together with the singular passion to make great theatre in our community. Josh is in the old timey, tricorn hat in the upper left.  Bill, always smiling, is next to him and Mark is the super tall one.  Vito looks suave in a tux and Michael has a big mouth.  Ali, our founder, loves her leg warmers, Robin is rocking a fur stole, Erica is pretty in pink, Jana is sporting a bonnet and Tiffany is the small but mighty one in the front.  We love to have fun and you're welcome to join in!
